How do you switch to a lighter shade of haircolor without using bleach?

I know that color cannot lift color. I%26#039;m naturally a level 7 so I should be able to go to a 9 without a problem, but since my hair is colored (I currently use an 8) I%26#039;m afraid it won%26#039;t lift. I don%26#039;t want to bleach all of my hair because bleach blonde is not the look I want. Would a high lift blonde work? I also wondered how long I would have to wait before my current color would be considered worn off so I could start using a lighter one. Any help appreciated.

you would have to use bleach but its not like you have to leave it on till your hair turns white.Keep watch for the shade you want then wash it out.

Is the current color on your hair a semi-permanat color? If not it will not wear off. Keep it trimmed and conditioned. When you see an inch or two of new growth, it is safe to color again, just color the roots first and pull color to the ends of the hair for the last 10 minutes. It will all look the same. Perhaps mix a stronger peroxide with the color to achieve a lighter shade.
