Do hairstylist decrease length of hair when styling emo hair? (boy)?

when getting the first emo haircut, do hair stylist end up decreasing the length of the hair in order to shape the bangs towards an eye? my bangs r pretty short and idk wut to do- get it shaped emo while its short or grow it out for the 2 months i have and get it cut then. im afraid if i do that, it will be short for the next school year, which is in 2 months
